Quarter Horse News operates in close tandem with Equi-Stat. Morris Communications Co. LLC, parent company of Cowboy Publishing Group and Quarter Horse News, formed Equi-Stat in 1985. Information researched and compiled by Equi-Stat enhances Quarter Horse News content, and the division has achieved the goal of helping performance horse events present a more accurate picture of their particular event to entrants, breeders, owners and potential sponsors.

The Equi-Stat database contains information from aged events, as well as weekend and championship shows conducted by organizations like the National Reining Horse Association, National Cutting Horse Association, National Reined Cow Horse Association, American Cutting Horse Association, American Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association and the NCHA of Australia. Statistics also are researched and compiled from barrel racing, Western pleasure and ranch versatility events.

With annual and lifetime statistics published every year for the reining, reined cow horse and cutting disciplines, Quarter Horse News is the one-stop shop to learn about the industry's leading horses, riders, sires, owners and breeders. There are also statistics on the best all-industry individuals – those who excel in two or more disciplines – and the top up-and-coming riders in each event.

When it comes to breeding, Quarter Horse News is unparalleled in the tools it provides stallion and mare owners. The "Stallion Register" is published every fall, providing complete biographies, statistical information and photos for hundreds of performance horse stallions. The print edition of the "Stallion Register" is distributed free of charge to all domestic Quarter Horse News subscribers and is also available for purchase throughout the year. The "Stallion Register" is also available as a smart phone app, giving you immediate access to the information you need no matter where you are. Quarter Horse News subscribers also receive the "Stallion Register" app at no additional charge, while non-subscribers can purchase the app at a competitive price.

Thanks to the far-reaching statistical power of Equi-Stat, Quarter Horse News informs readers about the industry's leading stallions in the "QHN 250," which is published every January. This list names the top 250 sires in the reining, reined cow horse and cutting industries, plus details the leaders in each of those disciplines.

Comprehensive statistics are found in the Junior Sires chart, a list of the latest, most successful stallions that have five or fewer foal crops. Nowhere else is this information compiled and available to the public. Also, every December, the annual Magic Cross section is published. By seeing how stallions crossed on daughters of other sires, according to earnings, breeders can make informed choices when booking their performance- bred mares to any of the hundreds of stallions in the business. The January 1 Broodmare Issue highlights the industry's finest dams, along with providing informative articles designed to help and inform mare owners.

When it comes to auctions, Quarter Horse News is the premier source of up-to-the-minute sale results, analysis, historical perspective and information about buyers and sellers. The annual "Sale Price Guide" has become the blue book of the performance horse industry, providing prices and information on each and every horse sold during the prior year at the major public performance horse auctions. Quarter Horse News also features the Sale Report Card, a complete listing of the sale horses that sold as weanlings, yearlings and 2 and 3-year-olds and then went on to earn money in the show pen.

Quarter Horse News was formed by a small group of investors and began publishing December 5, 1978, as a weekly newspaper devoted to coverage of the Quarter Horse industry with an emphasis on Quarter Horse racing. The newspaper started as a five-person operation occupying 200 square feet of office space. More than 30 people now work at the Fort Worth, Texas, office which houses executives, editorial, production, Equi-Stat and support staff for Cowboy Publishing Group, which is part of the Morris Media Network. Morris Media Network, a division of Augusta, Georgia-based Morris Communications Co. LLC, consists of five equine publications in addition to several other trade, outdoor, hunting and fishing publications.
