FROM OUR CORPORATE PARTNERS SILVER SPURS EQUINE Fulfilling the mission. "We want everyone to be able to afford to breed to the best, not just a se-lect few." he past 12 months have resulted in a very big expansion year for Silver Spurs Equine. In ad-dition to completing our new breeding facility, during the year we acquired Einsteins Revolution (in partnership with Wagner & Vandorp), Custom Cash Advance, Docs Soula, Mister Montana Nic, and our first pure bred Arabian reining stallion, What It Takes. We also acquired several high earning/producing mares: Shinersdiamond-jackie, Memorable Affair, Glendas A Smokingun, Custom Nifty Nic, Dunnies Prescription, Melis-sanic, Gypsys Miss Oak, Spark N Loulena, Crow About This, Forever Dun It, Holly Duns Duel, Hol-lywood Miss Okie, Light The Stars, and our first pure bred Arabian mare, PAF Tohottohandle. While it was a year of great achievement it was also a year of devastating loss. We lost our NRHA Million Dollar Sire and Hall of Fame inductee Boomernic. Even though it has been several months since his passing, as I am writing this I am still completely choked up and teary eyed. I will never get over him. Yet we must carry on and carry on we will as we enter our tenth year in the reining industry. Silver Spurs stands for quality and service and we look forward to serving the reining industry for many years to come. After the completion of our latest round of ac-quisitions, we now have assembled a collection of stallions that we believe represent the best of the finest blood lines in Reining: Reminic, Boomernic, Topsail Whiz, Grays Starlight, Nu Chex To Cash, Gunner (Colonels Smoking Gun), Custom Crome, and Einstein (Great Resolve), and Great Pine. Our ever expanding mare power combined with our great stallions will make our annual yearling prospect sale, held the first weekend of each November, the place to come for the finest prospects in Reining. It took us almost 10 years to get to this point and we could not have achieved this without your support. For that we are truly thankful. Getting here was the hard part; now comes the fun part. Having acquired 18 stallions (13 majors T and five junior stallions) gives us an economy of scale never before achieved in the industry. This economy of scale enables us to finally do what we started Silver Spurs for in the first place: to offer incredible stallions at very reasonable stud fees for all breeders, large and small alike, to enjoy. We want everyone to be able to afford to breed to the best, not just a select few. I receive phone calls every day from small breeders that tell me they have gotten out of the breeding business due to the high costs, but because of what Silver Spurs is doing they can’t afford not to breed. This expands our industry! And please, do not be taken in and fooled when someone says that by reducing the prices of our stallions we are cheapening the value of the foal. That is absolute nonsense. The old formula that a foal is worth three times the breeding fee is gone. A foal is valued on its pedigree, the earning and production records of the sire and the dam, its conformation, the way it moves and its athleti-cism. No one cares how much you paid for the breeding. If that were a factor, how come the highest selling foals are usually out of the highest producing mares and everyone knows that high producing mare owners get their breedings to any stallion for just the booking or chute fee? It is hard to believe that the 2015 breeding season is almost upon us. Our half-price sale on all of our stallions runs through December 6, 2014. For those of you that have already taken advantage of our sale we thank you for your business. For those that have not, time is run-ning out and breeding slots are very limited, so call us now before our stallions are booked full. Our yearling sale is coming up fast as well. Our sale will be held on November 1, 2014, pre-view day is October 31. Like last year, the sale will be live web cast so telephone bidding will be available. This year’s entire yearling crop con-sists of 28 incredibly bred yearlings, 20 colts and eight fillies. You can preview all of our yearlings, both photos and videos, on our web site: www.SilverSpursEquine.com. It will be an event

Fulfilling the mission

The past 12 months have resulted in a very big expansion year for Silver Spurs Equine. In addition to completing our new breeding facility, during the year we acquired Einsteins Revolution (in partnership with Wagner & Vandorp), Custom Cash Advance, Docs Soula, Mister Montana Nic, and our first pure bred Arabian reining stallion, What It Takes. We also acquired several high earning/producing mares: Shinersdiamond jackie, Memorable Affair, Glendas A Smokingun, Custom Nifty Nic, Dunnies Prescription, Melissanic, Gypsys Miss Oak, Spark N Loulena, Crow About This, Forever Dun It, Holly Duns Duel, Hollywood Miss Okie, Light The Stars, and our first pure bred Arabian mare, PAF Tohottohandle.

After the completion of our latest round of acquisitions, we now have assembled a collection of stallions that we believe represent the best of the finest blood lines in Reining: Reminic, Boomernic, Topsail Whiz, Grays Starlight, Nu Chex To Cash, Gunner (Colonels Smoking Gun), Custom Crome, and Einstein (Great Resolve), and Great Pine. It took us almost 10 years to get to this point and we could not have achieved this without your support. For that we are truly thankful.

Getting here was the hard part; now comes the fun part. Having acquired 18 stallions (13 majors and five junior stallions) gives us an economy of scale never before achieved in the industry. This economy of scale enables us to finally do what we started Silver Spurs for in the first place: to offer incredible stallions at very reasonable stud fees for all breeders, large and small alike, to enjoy.

We want everyone to be able to afford to breed to the best, not just a select few. I receive phone calls every day from small breeders that tell me they have gotten out of the breeding business due to the high costs, but because of what Silver Spurs is doing they can't afford not to breed. The old formula that a foal is worth three times the breeding fee is gone.

Our yearling sale is coming up fast as well. Our sale will be held on November 1, 2014, preview day is October 31. Like last year, the sale will be live web cast so telephone bidding will be available. This year's entire yearling crop consists of 28 incredibly bred yearlings, 20 colts and eight fillies. You can preview all of our yearlings, both photos and videos, on our web site: www.SilverSpursEquine.com. It will be an event you will not want to miss and we look forward to seeing you there.

Last year I spoke about how we changed our business model from being both a show barn and a breeding farm to just being a breeding farm. I am happy to report that this change has worked very well. While we will always have certain horses in the show pen as they complete their show careers before becoming part of our breeding program, and of course Michelle's non pro horses, it is no longer a focus of Silver Spurs. This is fine with me because I have come to the realization that I just do not have the stomach for the show pen. I get too nervous when Andrea, Marco, or Michelle go into the show pen with our horses. I am not nervous for them, I am nervous for my horses!

Going to the Alltech® FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Normandy, France, was an eye opening experience. Watching teams compete from so many countries clearly demonstrated to me that we are truly part of an international sport. The fans packed the stadium every day and their enthusiasm for Reining was overwhelming. Custom Cash Advance did great! We are so proud of him and NRHA Professional Andrea (Fappani). They did their part to clinch the USA Team Gold with a score of 224 and their run on finals night was incredible. "Cash" and Andrea scored an incredible 229 (with 3 penalty points) solidly capturing the individual Silver Medal and making Custom Cash Advance take his rightful position as an elite sire. Spooks Gotta Whiz and NRHA Professional Shawn Flarida won the Gold Medal with a fantastic 233.5 proving once again what a great sire we have in Spooks Gotta Gun.

On a personal note, in contrast to what we witnessed at the WEG I have noticed that USA NRHA show attendance is down. We only have 2 major NRHA sponsored shows, the NRHA Futurity and Derby, both in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. These are our events to show the world how much we love our sport. I know it is a lot easier, and certainly a lot cheaper, just to watch the web cast but we must view these shows as our trade conventions where we all get together to meet, talk and learn from each other.

I remember when Michelle and I went to our first Futurity 10 years ago. We both felt like fish out of water but we got up the nerve to speak with some of the people that we had previously only read about in the NRHA Reiner. I was so surprised how happy they were to talk with us and provide whatever advice they could. In fact, I have never met anyone in our sport that doesn't have strong opinions and are more than happy to share them whether you ask for it or not.

When you are at a show, particularly on finals night, please remember that the horse and rider teams have worked their tails off to make the finals, so please cheer as loud as you can for all of them, it means so much. When I see a rider go into the pen and the stands are as quiet as a church except for his/her crew and family members I feel terrible and scream and whistle as loud as I can for them. These are the champions of our sport, if we do not cheer for them who will?

See you at the shows, and when you are there, please look for our booth or come to our stalls. We will be happy to meet and talk with you about our breeding program and prospect sale. I would love to hear your opinion as to how you think we can expand or improve our unique program.
